Physical Model Studies for Greater Male’ Connectivity – Male’ to Thilafushi Link Project, Maldives, was commissioned by AFCONS Infrastructure Ltd. Lanka Hydraulic Institute Ltd. (LHI) conducted physical model studies during 2022–2023, including 2D wave-flume modelling of revetments at Thilafushi and Villingili and the protection wall at Gulhifalhu. LHI also carried out 3D basin modelling of the proposed road-and-bridge connections between Male’–Villingili, Villingili–Gulhifalhu, and Gulhifalhu–Thilafushi to support safe and resilient infrastructure design.

The Lakbi Fishery Harbour Development Project in Al-Wusta Governorate, Sultanate of Oman, is being implemented for the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources by Nursah Business LLC, with Lanka Hydraulic Institute Ltd. as the Contractor’s Design Consultant and Al Abraj Consulting Engineers–SPI Consulting Engineers JV as supervising consultant. The 22-month contract commenced on 6 June 2024. Works include harbour expansion, reclamation, dredging, floating pontoons, navigation aids, surveys, hydrodynamic studies, physical model testing, and marine-structure design to improve fishing operations and navigation.

Lanka Hydraulic Institute (LHI) was honored with the Best SME Exporter of the Year Award at the 27ᵗʰ Presidential Export Awards Ceremony, held on 11 December 2025 at the BMICH, Colombo. This prestigious national recognition highlights LHI’s outstanding performance, growing global presence, and excellence in the export sector. Organized by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), the ceremony recognized top exporters for the 2024/2025 financial year. Award recipients were selected through a rigorous evaluation process based on export revenue, market diversification, employment generation, environmental sustainability, and value addition. The award reaffirms LHI’s commitment to innovation, technical excellence, and sustainable development.

Lanka Hydraulic Institute Ltd (LHI) is expanding its office and physical modeling facilities to support the growing demand for consultancy services in the coastal and water sectors. The highlight of this expansion is a new 2D physical modeling flume, complementing LHI’s advanced 2D and 3D Hydraulics Laboratory. With a 50m long, 1.5m wide, and 2m high flume, LHI will enhance its modeling capabilities, providing more precise, large-scale models for complex projects. This addition ensures greater productivity and quality. Since 1984, LHI has led global coastal and inland water engineering, completing 600+ projects. With this expansion, LHI continues delivering top-tier services worldwide.
