The Thilafushi island, located around 7km westwards to Male City is presently used as the main waste dumping site in the country capital Male and its adjacent inhabited islands and the airport at Hulhule. In order to minimise the environmental impact, an incinerator has been proposed to burn the waste. The cooling system of incinerator will run using seawater as coolant and the dispersion of hot water in the marine environment is required to assess with respect to the coastal process of region. LHI carried out a thermal dispersion model study on behalf of Water Solutions Pvt. Ltd, Maldives to assess the impact on the marine environment with its heat plume. The study considered two monsoonal effects in simulations mainly considering wind, wave and tidal parameters.
