The Government of Sri Lanka has applied from International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank (WB) towards the cost of Strategic City Development Project (SCDP). Most of the infrastructure needs within the Galle Municipal Council (GMC) area have been identified under this project. Among them the improvement to the existing storm water drainage system has to be considered as a priority need,which would enhance the urban service delivery and liveability, and environmental health of the Galle City. The project covers a basin area of 20km2 including Moragoda Ela, Moda Ela and several cross drains. The scope of services as identified are follows: • Data collection & desk study • Development of digital terrain model & land use maps using Arc GIS • Hydrographic & topographic survey of existing and proposed drains on flood plains • Development & application of urban drainage system model • Development & application of hydraulic model using MIKE 11 • Preliminary design & cost-benefit analysis • Detailed design of proposed improvements • Construction supervision
